Car recall FAQ
How do I check if my car has a recall?
Select your vehicle’s model year, make and model above. We query the official U.S. NHTSA recalls database live and show every open recall, what’s wrong, the safety risk, and the remedy.
Is a recall repair free?
Yes. Safety recall repairs are performed free of charge at a franchised/authorized dealer, regardless of the car’s age or who owns it. You may need to book an appointment.
What does “Do not drive” mean on a recall?
Some severe recalls are flagged “park it” (do not drive) or “park outside” (fire risk). If you see those warnings, stop driving and contact a dealer immediately — the defect can be dangerous.
Does this check use my VIN?
This tool checks by year/make/model, which covers the whole recall campaign for that vehicle. To confirm whether a specific car still needs the repair, use your VIN at the manufacturer or NHTSA VIN lookup — start by decoding it with our VIN decoder.
Is the recall data worldwide?
The data is from the U.S. NHTSA, so coverage is best for U.S.-market vehicles. If your vehicle isn’t listed, also check your local manufacturer or national road-safety authority.
